The hallowed sportbike will be revived, although it might not be quite the track scorcher like its predecessor
Triumph has just released a teaser for their upcoming fully-faired motorcycle, which obviously points at the possibility of the Daytona name being revived. The not-so-cryptic social media teasers have given us clear hints as to what the intention is going to be and when we can expect all of the details: January 9.
What is clear is that it is aimed towards bikes like the Aprilia RS 660 and the Kawasaki Ninja 650 as this bike will be powered by the same 660 cc triple that you find on the Trident and Tiger Sport 660. This has been confirmed with the teaser showcasing a decal with the number 660.
We hope that Triumph does some magic and alters the state of tune for the motor for the Daytona 660. Currently, the Trident’s engine produces 80 bhp and 64 Nm. We just hope that in the thirst for versatility the charming triple experience doesn’t fall flat on this sport bike as it has sort of been the case on the other two 660s.
Another key highlight to note is that it isn’t going to be an out and out track motorcycle. Triumph has realised that the need for such motorcycles has diminished. Instead, we should be getting a bike that while being sportily stanced, will not be too aggressive for daily commutes or for tours. The teaser images reveal the iconic twin headlights, which appear to be full-LED units. Additionally, we anticipate the tail section to be similar to that of the Trident 660. Other components such as the Michelin Road 5 tyres, 17-inch wheels, and Nissin brakes are expected to be carried over from the Trident.
The bike is scheduled to be unveiled on January 9th, with an expected price tag of around ₹ 9 lakh. Now that Triumph has given us a clear indication that the Daytona will be back, let’s hope the larger Daytona 765 isn’t too far off in the future.
