This will be the third iteration of the 400 cc platform
Triumph is gearing up to expand its 400cc lineup with the introduction of the all-new Thruxton 400 café racer. Recent spy shots of the motorcycle undergoing testing have unveiled details about its design and features.
Majority of the bodywork closely resembles the existing Speed 400. Differences from the Speed 400 include a café racer front cowl, , a minimalist rear LED tail lamp, and downward-moved indicators on the USD fork to accommodate the fairing. Despite similarities in the seat, the test mule exhibits a square-shaped pillion grab rail, distinguishing it from the roadster variant. Rolling on Pirelli Rosso 3 rubber, it's expected that the India-spec model will likely use locally-sourced MRF or Apollo rubber.
The design of the fairing and headlamp resemble the design of the larger Speed Triple RR, contributing to a nostalgic yet modern look. Adding to the café racer vibe, Triumph has opted for a clip-on handlebar and rear-set foot pegs for a sporty stance.
The Triumph Thruxton 400 is likely to share the engine and underpinning with the Speed 400. The suspension, wheels, brakes, and overall chassis appear to remain unchanged in the spy shots. The 398 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine develops 39.5 bhp and 37.5 Nm on the speed 400 and the same power specs could be carried forward on the new Triumph cafe racer. We are expecting some change in the final drive gearing of this bike as seen on the Scrambler 400 X
Triumph's current 400 cc lineup includes the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X, priced at ₹ 2.33 lakh and ₹ 2.63 lakh, respectively (both ex-showroom). The Thruxton 400 is expected to slot in between these two models. We are unsure about the launch timeline of this motorcycle but a safe guess is around mid-2024.
