The new Triumph Speed T4 is ₹17,000, more affordable than the Speed 400.
Gearing up for the festive seasons, Triumph India has come up with another killer deal in the form of a new affordable variant of the Speed 400 called Triumph Speed T4. Based on the same 400 cc platform as the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X, the British manufacturer has made many changes, which have helped reduce its asking price from ₹2.34 lakh to ₹2.17 lakh. So, how did Triumph manage to achieve that?
Gone are the 43 mm USD fork available with the Speed 400. Instead, the Triumph Speed T4 comes equipped with conventional 43 mm telescopic fork at the front. Interestingly, the gas-charged monoshock suspension with preload adjustability option has remained unchanged.
On the other hand, while the Triumph Speed T4 continues to be available with disc brake at both ends, it equips Bybre axial front calipers, instead of the radial calipers seen with Speed 400.
While the 398.15 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine has remained the same, Triumph has reduced its power and torque output to 30.6 bhp and 36 Nm in order to make it more fuel-efficient. Triumph says that due to this tune, the same mill is now 10 per cent more fuel efficient, and it also has better low-end torque, which is ideal for the urban environment. Moreover, the Speed T4 gets a 39-tooth rear sprocket, 4 teeth less than the Speed 400's unit. Consequently, performance has also taken a toll, and the new Triumph Speed T4 can reach a top speed of 135 kmph, while the Speed 400 manages 145 kmph. Lastly, the Speed T4 also misses out on a traction control system.
To further reduce costs, the Triumph Speed T4 rides on cheaper MRF Zapper FX2 tyres, which, unlike the new premium and gripper Vredestein Centauro ST rubber available with the Speed 400, are heavier. As a consequence, the new Triumph Speed T4 is 3 kg heavier than its elder sibling, tipping the scales at 180 kg.
Lastly, the Triumph Speed T4 is available in simpler colour options: Pearl Metallic White, Phantom Black, and Cocktail Red Wine, unlike the 2024 Triumph Speed 400 which is available with four colour options, namely, Racing Yellow, Phantom Black, Pearl Metallic White, and Racing Red.
