A viral video depicting floor damage on the iQube has forced the company to take dramatic measures
In light of several chassis failures, TVS has issued a voluntary recall of all iQube units sold between July 10th, 2023 and September 9th, 2023. The action was prompted after a video on Instagram went viral, showcasing the chassis was getting damaged with the floor member jutting out.
TVS’ statement states that this recall has been made to ensure that each scooter’s “ride and handling are as per specifications over extended usage.” Furthermore, “The company will also carry out any rectification, if required, on affected scooters at zero cost to the customer.” TVS would reach out to each owner individually itself or via its dealer partners.
While an official number of affected units hasn’t been divulged by the company, one can estimate it to be roughly 45,000 iQubes that were produced and sold in the above time frame. And this issue propping up doesn’t bode well for TVS as it had just recently launched three new versions of the iQube, thus making the e-scooter family more approachable for all riding purposes.
We hope that TVS does identify and fortify the chassis of the iQube if need be as it is perhaps the best no-frill riding electric scooter experience that we have had so far. While any recall isn’t positive news for any manufacturer, it’s good to see TVS issuing a voluntary recall and fixing the issue rather than brushing off the above incident with its vehicle. We hope that TVS does identify and fortify the chassis of the iQube if need be as it is perhaps the best no-frill riding electric scooter experience that we have had so far.
