The shift in trend can be owing to the versatility a scooter offers over a motorcycle.
TVS Motor Company recently announced its sales performance for April, 2026 and the company managed to improve sales by 6 per cent as it sold 4,55,33 units. While the above is positive news for the brand, there was a big shift in sales performance. Scooters managed to outsell motorcycles, which is a rare occurrence. TVS sold 2,00,039 units of motorcycles whereas 2,11,158 units of scooters were dispatched last month.
The above could be a mix of two factors, firstly that demand for scooters have actually increased and the second aspect could be the slow down in production due to supply chain challenges, shortages of raw materials and even logistics. Scooter sales saw an improvement of 24.40 per cent which is a huge increase compared to last year. The reasoning for the above can be the growing demand of the TVS Jupiter 110 family scooter, which also won the TOTMs for the best scooter and the expansion of the NTorq family. The new TVS Ntorq 150 has been hugely popular as for many years, hordes of NTorq 125 owners were waiting for an upgrade and now they have a great option to select from.

The rising demand for scooters is also owing to the versatility it offers in terms of riding, the convenience aspect and also the cost is competitive. The Jupiter 110 is the only scooter to get a footboard fuel tank, thereby freeing up a lot of underseat storage space. The NTorq 150 on the other hand offers good performance, a bunch of features, sporty styling and a balance of convenience which has never been seen in the 150 cc scooter space. It will be a curious case to see whether the TVS motorcycles can make a comeback in the coming few months or there will be a huge shift in demand for scooters. Interesting times await us.
