The most affordable Vida electric scooter retails at ₹74,000
In a recent earnings conference call, Hero officials have announced that it will be launching two new electric scooters in a couple of months’ time. The new Vida e-scooters will aim to make the brand more accessible and thus, improve its penetration in the electric scooter market. Hero currently ranks fifth in the EV two-wheeler space, behind traditional foes like TVS and Bajaj as well as Ola and Ather, in which Hero has heavily invested.
In the fiscal year gone by, Hero managed to sell only 58,503 units of its Vida e-scooter range. While it will hope that the new affordable alternatives will help the brand scale up, it has a mighty task on its hand as TVS and Bajaj have sold nearly five times more e-scooters each. Even Ather for that matter has sold thrice the amount of e-scooters Hero did. Bridging the gap to these rivals will be the key focus for Hero in FY26.
The new Vida e-scooters will be quite different from the V2 range or even the Z series shown at EICMA 2024. These low cost offerings would aim to meet the demands of the evolving Indian scooter buyer. And for the premium buyer, the Vida Z would make for quite a tempting purchase.
And this shift in market behaviour is what we will also see from a few other brands. TVS has already rejigged a few variants of its iQube e-scooter, with different battery packs and lower price points. Even Bajaj launched the more affordable variant of the Chetak a few weeks back. Hence, the shift in offering more range for your buck while skimping on fancy, frilly features will be the trend going forwards.
