Two-wheeler sales crossed the 2 crore mark in 2025, witnessing a 5% hike, but volumes still remain below the record peak of 2.1 crore sold in 2018.
Two-wheeler sales in India crossed the two crore mark in the 2025 calendar year, witnessing a five per cent hike in volumes, as against 1.9 crore units in 2024, according to the data shared by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). That said, volumes still remain below the record peak of 2.1 crore sold in 2018.
Hero MotoCorp remained the best-selling two-wheeler maker in the country with 57.5 lakh units sold in 2025, a rise of two per cent in year-on-year volumes. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) retained its number two position with 54 lakh units sold, registering a 1.9 per cent hike in volumes, against 53 lakh units sold in 2024. Demand in the domestic market witnessed improvement owing to multiple factors. Two-wheeler sales saw a hike in demand in Tier I cities first with a higher consumption for scooter over motorcycles. SIAM said that the income tax relief, followed by the GST 2.0 revision, and repo rate cuts further helped boost demand for the two-wheeler market, by improving affordability and household spending. According to SIAM, the festive season this year was the strongest in recent years.
Two-wheeler exports saw a steady increase in 2025 with a record 49.4 lakh units shipped overseas in 2025, a rise of 24.2 per cent year-on-year. The agency reported that steady demand from South Asia, and a recovery of the African markets helped boost demand overseas. Two-wheelers also recorded their highest ever exports in Q3 FY2025-26 of 1.37 million units, registering a growth of 24.3% year-on-year.
SIAM said that CY2025 was a landmark year for the Indian automobile industry, supported by a series of structural policy reforms, which strengthened demand fundamentals in the sector. The industry now enters Q4 (Jan-March 2026) with double-digit growth across all vehicle segments and is expecting steady wholesale and retail volumes traction through the quarter, backed by sustained demand and policy-led tailwinds. At the same time, the body said it is watchful of geopolitical developments.
