Uber's new safety suite includes the following features:
Women-Centric Driving Option: Uber has launched a "Women Rider Preferred" setting, enabling female drivers to exclusively accept trips from women passengers. This innovative option addresses driver feedback, aims to enhance personal safety, potentially extend working hours, and boost earning potential for women drivers.
Audio Recording: A first-of-its-kind feature allowing both riders and drivers to record trip conversations when feeling uncomfortable. The recordings are fully encrypted and securely stored, accessible only through official safety reports. This feature adheres to India's one-party consent legislation and is available across the entire country.
Further Uber users can now automatically activate RideCheck, enable Share My Trip feature and set up automatic audio recording for enhanced security.
“We believe that our work on safety never stops. Whether it’s through tech-driven solutions like SOS integration and Women Rider Preference, or through initiatives such as gender sensitization, we remain focused on building a platform that riders and drivers can trust every time," Sooraj Nair, Head – Safety Operations, Uber India & South Asia, was quoted as saying.
The cab aggregator has also launched Uber One, a subscription service. Alongside safety features, the new service is different from the previous Rider Pass. With Uber One, users can get:
Uber One is available as monthly plan for Rs 149, quarterly plan for Rs 349 and annual plan for Rs 1,499.
