The EV policy also aims to attract capital for EV manufacturing facilities, battery production units and charging networks as well.

Uttarakhand state officials convened on Thursday to assess a comprehensive electric mobility legislation that will help accelerate clean transportation adoption throughout the hill state. Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan led the discussion on the proposed EV policy, along with senior Government representatives from Uttarakhand’s Transport Department and officials from multiple state agencies.

The policy framework unveiled during the session, encompassed financial incentives and infrastructure development targets to expand EV penetration across Uttarakhand's transportation sector. Bardhan stressed the importance of creating substantial benefits for manufacturers, buyers, and commercial fleet operators. The senior official also advocated for establishing rapid response mechanisms to tackle implementation obstacles.

The proposed legislation will support the state's environmental objectives to promote emission-free transportation options which in turn will complement the national climate initiatives as well. Following the finalisation of the policy, officials will be aiming to attract capital for EV manufacturing facilities, battery production units, and charging network expansion.

Currently, Uttarakhand has 86,614 electric vehicles among its total fleet of 42 lakh registered vehicles, as per Transport Secretary Vinay Shankar Pandey. With the upcoming EV policy, Uttarakhand will be working on expanding the footprint of EVs in the state.

Uttarakhand was preceded by Maharashtra in May as it came up with a more comprehensive EV plan. The western state is aiming to achieve 30% EV penetration. How does it aim to do so, check the link here for all the details.
