Very Confident Of 5-Star Crash Test Rating For nu_iQ Platform Cars: R Velusamy, Mahindra & Mahindra

Mahindra & Mahindra recently revealed the new nu_iQ platform that will spawn four new models, which will be the evolved versions of the Vision.S, Vision.X, Vision.T and Vision.SXT concepts showcased on August 15, 2025. In an exclusive interaction with Acko Drive, R Velusamy, President of Automotive Technology & Product Development, Mahindra & Mahindra, said the brand is “very confident” about a 5-star rating from crash test ratings from either BNCAP or GNCAP. 

When asked about whether these new cars will have Mahindra’s 5-star crash test rating, Velusamy said, “Yes, of course it has to be tested and certified. We are very confident.”

Velusamy added that lots of innovations were incorporated with the nu_iQ cars to make them worthy of 5-star ratings. Primarily, the crash test structure, which includes new ideologies like the twin-trident and uniring structure,s which Velusamy says will help with the “very confident” crash test scores. When asked if it will be challenging getting the new platform crash-test worthy, Velusamy said, “It is challenging. We found that the Twin Trident structure and the uniring structure for the sides have made it possible to liberate space” for crumple zones. 

These two structures are part of the 101 patents Mahindra & Mahindra have filed for the nu_iQ platform, all of which are global patents. This hints at Mahindra’s aim to make the cars on the new platform ready for the global markets. 

As mentioned, Mahindra & Mahindra currently have four products that will spawn from the nu_iQ platform. Velusamy said the first model will be launched at the start of the calendar year 2027. This means that the concepts are very close to production, as the first launch is less than 18 months away, approximately. Which will be the first remains to be seen.
