Volkswagen is gearing up for its next big launch — the Tayron R-Line. The German carmaker recently confirmed its launch in India with a couple of teasers on social media. The company has now released official images of the upcoming seven-seat SUV. The Tayron will mark VW’s re-entry into the seven-seat SUV space after discontinuing the Tiguan Allspace in 2022.
The latest iteration of the Volkswagen Tayron made its global debut in early 2025. Volkswagen has confirmed that the Tayron will be locally assembled via CKD kits in India, which means it will be competitively priced around ₹45 lakh – ₹50 lakh as opposed to its fully-imported siblings including Tiguan R-Line and Golf GTI.
The Tayron R-Line is based on Volkswagen’s evolved global SUV design language. The SUV adopts a muscular profile marked by pronounced shoulder lines and R-Line badging on the fenders. Key visual elements include illuminated Volkswagen logos at the front and rear, full-width LED light signatures at both ends, slim IQ.Light LED headlamps, and distinctive LED tail lamps. It is underpinned by large 19-inch Coventry alloy wheels, which add to its premium appeal and commanding road presence.

Underpinned by the same MQB EVO platform as the Tiguan R-Line, the Tayron gets a longer wheelbase of 2,789 mm, which makes it 109 mm longer than the former, thus, accommodating an extra row of seats. The SUV has also achieved a 5-star Euro NCAP rating.
Inside the cabin, the Tayron R-Line gets a minimalist, horizontal dashboard design housing a driver-focussed 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system that encompasses all critical functions. This is complemented by a fully digital cockpit and a head-up display. Like the Tiguan R-Line, the Tayron R-Line offers a massage function for its leather-upholstered front seats. However, unlike the Tiguan R-Line, which is equipped with seat heating, the Tayron R-Line features ventilated front seats, a more practical addition for local driving conditions.

Other notable features on offer include a panoramic sunroof, 30 colour ambient lighting, multi-zone automatic climate control, and matrix LED lamps. With the third-row seats folded, the Volkswagen Tayron offers a generous boot space of 850 litres.
Powering the India-spec Volkswagen Tayron R-Line will be the familiar 2.0-litre TSI EVO turbo-petrol engine, producing around 201 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. This engine will be paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. When launched, the Tayron R-Line will take on rivals such as Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, Toyota Fortuner, and MG Gloster.
