VW has recorded 81436 units exported to overseas markets, totalling 1.43 lakh units retailed since its launch.
Volkswagen India is marking the third anniversary of the Virtus sedan, which was launched in June 2022 as part of the company’s India 2.0 strategy. Positioned in the compact sedan segment, the Virtus has recorded cumulative domestic sales of 61,564 units over 36 months, as per internal sales data. However, the company has recorded 81436 units exported to overseas markets, totalling 1.43 lakh units retailed in the period.

Sales of the Virtus have shown a steady upward trajectory since launch. In its first year (June 2022–May 2023), the sedan registered 18,914 units. This increased to 20,796 units in the second year and 21,854 units in the most recent 12-month cycle. Volkswagen claims a 32 per cent share of the shrinking compact sedan segment in 2025 (year-to-date), stating the Virtus has led segment sales in both calendar years 2024 and 2025 so far.
Despite these headwinds, Volkswagen India reports a 7 per cent year-on-year growth for the Virtus in FY26 (YTD) compared to the same period in FY25. However, this growth comes off a relatively modest base, given the narrow volumes in the segment. The sedan is underpinned by the MQB-A0-IN platform, shared with the Taigun SUV and Skoda Slavia, allowing for cost efficiencies and localisation benefits.
