The exact number of units affected for each of the models is still unclear.
In a significant move addressing vehicle safety, Volkswagen and Skoda have announced recalls affecting over 47,000 units of their popular models in India. The recalls pertain to potential defects in seatbelt assemblies and welding inconsistencies that could compromise passenger safety. Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has initiated a recall for 25,772 units of its Kushaq SUV, Slavia sedan, and the recently launched Kylaq, as well as 21,513 units of its Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan, all manufactured between May 24, 2024, and April 1, 2025. The exact number of units affected for each of the models is still unclear, and Acko Drive has reached out to Skoda Auto Volkswagen India for a response.
The recall stems from issues identified in the rear seatbelt assemblies. Specifically, the rear seatbelt buckle latch plate may break, and the webbing of the rear centre seatbelt assembly, along with the buckle of the rear right seatbelt, might fail during a frontal collision. Such failures could pose significant risks to rear-seat passengers.
Both Volkswagen and Skoda have emphasised their commitment to customer safety. In a joint statement, the Group said, “As a part of the Group's commitment to customers, to maintain the highest standard of Safety and Quality, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India is conducting a recall of the Skoda Slavia, Kushaq, Kylaq and Volkswagen Virtus & Taigun models (manufactured between 24th May 2024 to 1st April 2025), to address a potential seat belt concern. Our authorized service centres are proactively reaching out to the customers to ensure swift and seamless resolution.”
