Globally, the Volvo EX60 will rival the likes of Tesla Model Y, BMW iX3, Mercedes-Benz EQC, and BYD Sealion.

Volvo will be taking its next big step in the world of electric mobility. The Swedish carmaker has confirmed the global debut of the all-electric EX60 on 21 January 2026 at Artipelag in Stockholm. The battery-powered mid-size SUV will be the first model to be built on Volvo’s new SPA3 800V electric platform.

Production of the Volvo EX60 will begin in the first half of 2026 at the company’s Gothenburg-based facility. In essence, the EX60 will be an all-electric equivalent to the Volvo XC60 and will eventually replace the latter as the carmaker walks towards being a fully EV brand in the future.

Volvo EX60: Exterior Design

Alongside the announcement, Volvo has also teased the upcoming EX60 on its website where the design of the all-electric SUV is partially revealed. In line with other Volvo models, the EX60 adopts the brand’s signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED daytime running lamps, complemented by slim LED headlamps. Teaser images further suggest the presence of vertically stacked LED fog lamps positioned on either side of the bumper. While the grille design has not yet been revealed, it is expected to be largely closed off in keeping with conventional EV styling, with the Volvo emblem clearly visible.

The side profile reveals outside rearview mirrors equipped with camera modules, pointing to the inclusion of a 360-degree camera system, along with dual-tone alloy wheels. A top-down teaser also highlights the presence of a panoramic glass roof. Earlier, in May 2025, the rear design was previewed through a clay model, which showcased Volvo’s signature tail-lamps, a gloss-black bumper insert, and a silver skid plate.

Volvo EX60: Features & Safety

Besides the exterior, the teasers also give a partial glimpse of the EX60’s interiors. While the complete list of features will be revealed on January 21, the teasers highlight a large, free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with integrated climate controls and support for Google Gemini. Positioned below the screen is a physical scroller for system navigation. The EX60 will also be equipped with a Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

Additional expected features include a digital driver display, multi-zone climate control, a wireless phone charger, and electrically adjustable, ventilated seats. Safety remains a core focus for Volvo, and the EX60 introduces multi-adaptive safety belts as a key highlight. According to the manufacturer, these belts dynamically adjust to traffic conditions and occupant requirements by leveraging real-time data from the vehicle’s sensors, thereby enhancing overall protection.

Volvo EX60: Powertrain

Although exact battery and motor specifications have yet to be disclosed, the Volvo EX60 is underpinned by the new 800V SP3 platform and claims to deliver a WLTP range of up to 810km in the range-topping all-wheel-drive variant. A single-motor, two-wheel-drive variant is also expected to be offered. The architecture supports DC fast charging of up to 400 kW, enabling a range top up of 340 km  in approximately 10 minutes. Additionally, Volvo will provide a 10-year warranty on the battery pack.
