The EX90 debuted in November 2022 and will be built at Volvo’s facility in the USA.
Nearly 18 years since Volvo debuted the EX90, the electric SUV has finally gone into production. Volvo’s flagship electric SUV will be produced at the Charleston, South Carolina plant in the USA. Volvo said the deliveries of the EX90 will begin in the second half of 2024.
The EX90 is based on Volvo’s new-gen, born-electric platform and has a claimed range of up to 600 km. It packs a 111 kWh and Volvo claims it can be charged from 10-80 per cent in less than 30 minutes. The EX90 comes with a twin-electric motor setup with up to 510 bhp and 910 Nm, and its top speed is limited to 180 kmph.
Volvo claims the EX90 is its safest car to date with a big focus on software as well as hardware. The EX90 comes with a LiDAR system with sensors mounted on the roof. It also gets the standard safety suite from Volvo which includes ADAS that also uses Lidar along with a variety of cameras and sensors.
The EX90’s design is based on the Concept Recharge which debuted in 2021. It still retains Volvo’s signature design language with cues like Thor’s hammer headlights and a blanked-off grille as seen on its other electric models like the EX30, EM90 and more. The EX90 rides on 22-inch wheels and has flush-fitting door handles. It measures 5,037 mm in length, 1,964 mm in width and 1,744 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,985 mm.
Inside, the EX90 has a 14.5-inch vertically-oriented touchscreen infotainment system running on Volvo’s Google-based infotainment software. It features a panoramic sunroof, a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system with Dolby Atmos and more.
