The 10,000th model to roll out of Volvo India’s Bengaluru facility was the XC40 Recharge.

It was in 2017 when Volvo India started assembling its cars in India at its Bengaluru facility with the XC90. And now after almost 5 years, the brand has reached its first milestone figure of 10,000 cars assembled and manufactured from that same facility. The 10,000th model was the marque’s first pure-electric offering, the XC40 Recharge.

“The steady increase of capacities at Bangalore reflects our commitment to India’s luxury mobility segment,” pointed Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Car India.

It should be noted here that out of the five years of production at the facility, three years of pandemic had disrupted the momentum of production as well. Over the year, significant work has also gone behind to help expand production in this facility. “Since 2017 we have been increasing our capacities to meet customer demand and have also continuously undertaken skill upgradation leading to the successful assembly of EVs,” clarified Gao Feng, Production Head, Volvo Car India. “Our plant also holds the proud distinction of having rolled out India’s first domestically assembled EV our XC40 Recharge,” Feng added.

Volvo India’s manufacturing facility located in Hoskote, near Bengaluru at the moment locally assembles the brand’s entire line-up for the Indian market. The models include, XC90, XC60, S90, XC40 Recharge and newly launched C40 Recharge.
