The ID.3 Neo will also connect to Volkswagen’s push to use software as a key selling point.
Volkswagen has named the successor to the ID.3 as the ID.3 Neo and plans a world premiere for the new model in mid-April. The car is part of a wider plan to grow the ID electric family and to update software across several existing models.
The ID.3 Neo will use the latest software generation that brings features such as enhanced Travel Assist with traffic light detection and One Pedal Driving, in which the car recuperates energy until it comes to a stop. Volkswagen says this software will also support new regulatory requirements, including Euro 7, the Californian ZEV standard and the European GSR2 safety rules. The company is positioning the ID.3 Neo as a core model in its compact electric line-up to support its strategy for sustainable mobility under the “BOOST 2030” plan.
Volkswagen’s electric strategy is based on a growing ID family that covers several segments. The ID.4, ID.5 and ID.7 can already be ordered with the latest software generation and the new Innovision infotainment system, and they will share many of the same functions that debut on the ID.3 Neo. New electric models in the small and compact segments, including the planned ID. Polo, ID. Polo GTI and ID. Cross, are also due to launch with these updates.

In 2025, the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand delivered about 4.7 million vehicles worldwide across all powertrains. Within that figure, the company handed over around 382,000 all-electric cars to customers, underlining the growing role of battery-powered models in its sales mix. The ID family, which includes the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5 and ID.7, is central to this volume and will remain a focus as the brand tries to increase its electric share in major markets.

The ID.3 Neo will also connect to Volkswagen’s push to use software as a key selling point. The latest software allows digital services and features to be activated or upgraded through an in-car app store, covering areas such as audio, video streaming, parking, charging and gaming. A digital vehicle key will be available, allowing owners to access the car using a smartphone or smartwatch, while physical buttons return to the steering wheel to change how drivers use common functions.
