WhatsApp is getting new features for status updates, including the ability to like posts and make private mentions.
Meta-owned WhatsApp is introducing a suite of new features to enhance user experience through status updates and video calls, the company announced on Friday. The world's most-popular messaging platform is launching several features for status updates, including the ability to like posts and make private mentions. WhatsApp users will now be able to tag up to five WhatsApp accounts in their status updates, and notifications will be sent to mentioned users.
A new private tagging option in accounts in their status updates will allows users to tag others without displaying their names publicly.

The update also introduces a one-tap like feature for status updates, which remains private and visible only to status creators within their viewer list. Additionally, users mentioned in a status update will have the option to reshare it to their own accounts.
"WhatsApp Status is the best way to stay connected with friends and family, and now we're making it even better. With status likes, private mentions, and the ability to reshare a status you're mentioned in, we're making it easier to reach the people who matter most," Meta-owned WhatsApp wrote in a blog post.
These social features, which are similar to the features already present in Instagram Stories, are being gradually rolled out to WhatsApp users and will become available globally in the coming days.
"We'll be bringing more features to Status and the Updates tab over the next few months to make it easier to stay closest to those who matter most," WhatsApp added.
The platform has also expanded its video calling capabilities with new customisation options. Users can now enhance their video calls with camera filters and customisable backgrounds. The update includes Touch Up and Low Light features to improve visual quality across different lighting conditions.
