WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature that allows users to pin important messages at the top of individual and group chats. On Tuesday, the Meta-owned messaging platform announced the pinned message capability as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the user experience on the popular messaging app.
The pinned message feature works similarly to pinning chats on WhatsApp's home screen. Users can now long press on a message and select the "Pin" option to highlight important messages, such as addresses, event details, or group chat rules. It keeps important information at the top of chats without getting lost in the conversation thread.

WhatsApp says any message can be pinned for easy access, including text, images, polls, and emojis. Additionally, admins in group chats control who can pin messages, allowing all members or just other admins to do so. A pinned message also displays a system message informing others of the pin.
For privacy, WhatsApp notes that pinned messages remain end-to-end encrypted, just like normal messages. Users can choose the duration a message stays pinned - 24 hours, 7 days (default), or 30 days. After the set period ends, messages get automatically unpinned but remain accessible in the chat history.
With pinned messages, finding addresses, contact details, or event info is expected to be faster. The rollout has begun for WhatsApp on Android, iOS, Windows, and the web.
