OnePlus returns to its roots with the OnePlus 12, featuring powerful specs and addressing previous shortcomings.
Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus is poised to introduce a new flagship device - the OnePlus 12. Representing a return to its roots, this phone is expected to embody the qualities of a true flagship, likely featuring the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset alongside a triple camera configuration.
In recent years, OnePlus has faced criticism for deviating from its original ethos of producing affordable devices tailored to tech enthusiasts. However, with the release of the OnePlus 11 in 2023, the company appears to have realigned itself with these principles. Not only does this handset come with a significantly lower price tag compared to other flagship phones, but it has also garnered highly positive reviews.
Addressing previous pain points reported by customers, OnePlus aims to tackle camera and software quality head-on. According to a report by GSM Arena, despite a partnership with Hasselblad, the cameras have failed to impress. The OnePlus 12, however, may feature a 1-inch Sony IMX 989 sensor, complemented by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera and a 64-megapixel telephoto camera produced by OmniVision.
Furthermore, the device is expected to boast a 5,000mAh battery and support 150W fast charging. While the OnePlus 12 is set to debut in China later this year, it may only reach India and other countries in early 2024.
Notably, OnePlus recently launched a variant of the OnePlus 11 called "Marble Odyssey," which replicates the texture of marble, ensuring each unit possesses a unique appearance. This move represents a foray into the premium market segment and could serve as a preview of what awaits consumers with the upcoming OnePlus 12.
