Williams and Gulf Oil are two storied names that are part of F1 folklore and as the part of its 2023 launch, the legendary Williams F1 team showcased its all new FW45 which also brandished Gulf Oil branding marking the return of the iconic petroleum giant. Gulf Oil first appeared in motorsport a century ago in 1923 when it debuted in Le Mans. Over the years in F1, it has been associated with the McLaren team in hypercar categories and in 2021, McLaren also ran a one-0ff Gulf oil themed livery at the Monaco GP. But this means the official return of Gulf Oil in F1 in concert with Williams.
"Gulf has a proud history in motorsport with some of the most iconic and respected teams, and Williams Racing is no exception. Together we share decades of motorsport experience to bring motorsport, Formula 1 and Williams Racing fans closer to the sport they love through our partnership,” said Mike Jones the CEO of Gulf Oil International.
Gulf Oil will also be supporting the Williams Driver Academy and its eSports team. This car will be driven by Alex Alton and rookie driver Logan Sargent.
“Together we share a vision of a bright modern future for motorsport on and off the track; made possible through our common culture of partnership and innovation. This makes Williams Racing the perfect partner for Gulf, and we’re excited to start this next chapter of our iconic motorsport story,” Jones said.
Matthew Savage, the CEO of Dorilton Capital, the owners of the Williams F1 team said, “ I am incredibly excited about this partnership between Williams Racing and Gulf, a renowned and trusted global brand, who have put their trust in us as a long-term partner. This signifies the strength of our brand and commercial offerings as we continue our transformation. Gulf and Williams Racing share an illustrious motorsport heritage and, together, we are making history with this partnership.”
