We list five top electric scooters that are helping our cause to preserve and protect the Earth on this World Earth Day.
With more and more auto manufacturers committing to produce fully electric vehicles to combat rising emissions, we have gained many new options. These new modes of transport are silent, quicker, and greener compared to the existing two-wheelers and four-wheelers powered by internal combustion engines (ICE).
So, on the occasion of the World Earth Day 2024, here are five electric scooters in India which feature in our top five countdowns:
Ola has been at the forefront of electric mobility with its S1 range of scooters. Currently, available in four trim levels - Ola S1 Pro, S1 Air, S1X+, and S1X — there is one Ola for everyone. Coupled with the fact ex-showroom prices start from as less than ₹70,000, and the long list of features they come equipped with — the Ola scooter manages to hit the sweet spot when it comes to being a value-for-money product. However, repeated reliability issues have been one area of concern for all Ola scooter owners, something that the company is addressing constantly.
Closely on the heels of Ola and in second position (in terms of sales) is TVS with its iQube electric scooter. The epitome of simplicity – right from its straightforward design down to its no-frills electric powertrain – commuting in the city with the iQube becomes a breezy affair. Powered by a 3.4 kWh battery, the TVS iQube has a claimed range of 100 km on a single charge. Moreover, unlike conventional ICE-powered scooters, TVS claims that the iQube can do 560 km of range on ₹100 worth of fuel, now that’s a bargain and some!
So, if you plan to buy the TVS iQube, prices start from ₹1.46 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and with the EMPS 2024 subsidy, the base-spec TVS iQube is available at ₹1.19 lakh (on-road).
After having served the role of being the staple scooter in most Indian middle-class households, the Bajaj Chetak made a comeback in 2020 as an all-electric scooter. Although the first iteration felt a bit dated compared to its competitors, the current iteration of the Chetak gets all the bells and whistles - from turn-by-turn navigation to music playback control and much more. The Bajaj Chetak is available with two battery pack options, 3.2 kWh and 2.9 kWh, which are good for 126 km and 113 km of claimed range. Ather 450
Ather has been one of the most reliable electric scooter brands in India. Its range of ‘450’ scooters – 450X, 450 Plus, and 450 Apex – not just looks good and aggressive, but are also backed by solid performance. Available with two battery pack options, with the bigger 3.7 kWh battery, the Ather 450X can do 150 km of certified range, which is quite impressive. Coupled with its ever-expanding Ather Grid of charging network, range anxiety is gradually becoming a thing of the past with the Athers.
Staying true to its moped roots, the new Kinetic E-Luna premiered earlier this year in January. Without deviating much at all from its original design, the E-Luna continues with the same minimal but sturdy body design that will be able to carry 150 kg of load. Powered by a 2 kWh battery that is good for 100 km of range on a single charge, the Kinetic E-Luna will continue to be as utilitarian as it was before, but without the burning a hole in your pocket at ₹70,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
