The Xiaomi YU7 SUV will be available in three variants at launch time – standard, YU7 Pro, and YU7 Max
Although Xiaomi has fully unveiled its YU7 SUV, its highly anticipated second model following the SU7 sedan, details about its pricing and availability have so far been scarce. The company has now confirmed on its Chinese social media accounts that June 26 is the official launch date, following its unveiling in late May. The YU7 is expected to compete with Tesla’s Model Y. Prices will be announced at the launch event.
Deliveries of the YU7 should begin in July, though local Chinese media reports that thousands of units have already been manufactured at the company’s Beijing manufacturing plants. The car has been seen at Xiaomi showrooms in the country in the days since its official unveiling.
The YU7 is designed to be a sporty and bold yet practical and comfortable electric SUV, with several design elements that match its sibling, the SU7. It measures 4.9m (L) × 1.9mm (W) × 1.6m (H) with a 3m wheelbase. There will be three variants, mirroring the SY7 – a YU7 Standard, YU7 Pro, and YU7 Max.
Recent spy shots have also potentially revealed how the company is planning to set the YU7 Max apart. Changes include carbon-fibre materials on several parts of the interior as well as exterior, serving as a design element and helping to reduce weight. It also features 21-inch alloy wheels.
Xiaomi calls its engine the HyperEngine V6s Plus. Drivers will get front double-wishbone and rear five-link independent suspension, closed double-chamber air springs with five levels of height adjustment and adjustable stiffness, and Brembo four-piston fixed calipers.
While the YU7 Standard and YU7 Pro are set to use the same 96.3 kWh battery capacity, the YU7 Max will have a 101.7 kWh battery. The YU7 Standard delivers the longest range at 835km (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle), which Xiaomi says is a class-leader. The YU7 Pro and YU7 Max variants are four-wheel drive, offering 760km and 770km CLTC ranges respectively. The company has used an 800V silicon-carbide platform. A 10 percent to 80 percent charge is possible in 12 minutes, while 15 minutes of charging can deliver up to 620km of range.
Buyers will get the same massive 16.1-inch central touchscreen that debuted with the SU7. In addition, a HyperVision Panoramic Display built using three mini-LED screens stretches across the lower portion of the windscreen, making for a 1.1m (roughly 43-inch) equivalent projection display. Both cars are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295 platform along with Nvidia’s Drive Orin hardware and a suite of sensors including cameras, ultrasonic, and lidar.
While Xiaomi has not yet announced any plans to sell its cars outside China yet, it is investing in expanded manufacturing capabilities near Beijing as delivery times remain long, and a new Shanghai subsidiary that will focus on vehicle sales, rentals, charging equipment and commercial transportation needs.
