This will be Yokohama’s fifth production facility in North America.
Yokohama has announced it will build a new factory in Saltillo, Mexico, in a bid to strengthen its supplies to the North American market. This will be the Japanese marque’s fifth tyre production facility in the continent and will be built with a capital investment of $380 million (roughly ₹3,150 crore).
The Mexican facility will have an annual production facility of five million tyres. Construction is set to begin by June 2024, and production is scheduled to begin by March 2027. Yokohama says the Mexican facility will be built on an area spanning 610,000 square metres and will have scope for future expansion. Furthermore, Yokohama’s new plant will have access to a major railway and expressway network, which it says will help in timely deliveries of tyres to North America.
