Nagaland Regional Transport Office (RTO) – An Overview

For proper regulation of all transport-related activities in India, the Nagaland Government created the Regional Transport Office or RTO. The department remains solely responsible for maintaining a database of each car operating on state and national highways and providing licenses to each driver. 

Nagaland occupies a large portion of the northeastern part of India. Under Section 133-A of the MV Act of 1933, the State’s Motor Vehicles Department was founded in 1963, the year when Nagaland came into existence. There are two different divisions of the Motor Vehicles Department of Nagaland namely, the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) and District Transport Offices (DTOs). The transportation commissioner however remains in charge of this department.
