How does the Traffic Police impose an e-challan in Chandigarh?

The latest Chandigarh traffic rules and regulations
To maintain a safe and smoothly running traffic, the government has imposed strict rules and regulations. Here are some of the major violations associated with Chandigarh traffic rules.
Driving beyond the speed limit
One of the common traffic violations in Chandigarh is overspeeding. The Police Department levies fines on any motor vehicle crossing the speed limit on the roads.
The penalty for the first time offender is Rs. 1,000 for both two-wheelers and Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) such as cars, jeeps, etc. But if the same offender is caught again, the subsequent offence fine is set to be Rs. 1,500 for two-wheelers and Rs. 2,000 for LMVs.
Invalid or no driving licence
The fine is heavy if a person drives a vehicle with an invalid Driving Licence (DL) or doesn’t possess a driving licence. The notified penalty for this offence is Rs. 5,000 for both the first and second violations.
However, if a person simply fails to provide a DL when demanded by a police officer, the fine is set to be Rs. 500. The subsequent fine for the same offence is Rs. 1,000.
Vehicles causing excessive pollution
There are set pollution standards every vehicle must fall under in Chandigarh. Any vehicle causing excessive pollution can attract a fine of Rs. 2,000 for the first-time offence. However, the fine for the second violation is Rs. 5,000.
Underage driver
Chandigarh Traffic Police is strict about underage driving. The legal age for a person to drive a motor vehicle is 18 years. In case an underage person is caught driving, the fine can go up to Rs. 25,000 as per the amendment made in The Motor Vehicles Act in 2019.
Along with the fine, the guardians/parents/vehicle owners will also be held liable and may face imprisonment up to 3 years. Moreover, the underage driver may have to face trial as per the Juvenile Justice Act.
Intoxicated driver
Drunken driving is penalised with a heavy fine and/or imprisonment in Chandigarh. The offence can attract a fine of up to Rs. 10,000 as well as 6 months of jail time.
