How to Pay Traffic Fines in Delhi?

The e-challan notice is sent as an SMS to your registered mobile number which includes details of the traffic violation and the fine for the same. You may also receive a physical notice to your registered address. Follow these steps to pay traffic challan online in Delhi:

Steps to Pay Your Traffic e-Challan Online in Delhi:

  • Step 3: On the new page, either enter your vehicle number or the notice number and click on ‘Search Details’ to retrieve the details of the traffic fine.

Pending
  • Step 4: If there is a pending notice, then select to ‘Pay Now’ to clear the traffic fine.

  • Step 5: On the new page, check the ‘Payment ID’ and the amount payable then proceed to make the payment through the payment gateway available to users.

  • Step 6: Upon successful payment, a new window popup will confirm the payment of the Delhi traffic challan. You can choose to print in the PDF format for future reference.

How to Check Your e-Challan Status?

Sometimes, you might not be sure if you have received a traffic e-challan or if your vehicle has pending notices that needs to be paid. Through the initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the Central government has introduced ‘Parivahan’, the digital traffic and transport enforcement solution. This website lets you check your e-challan status online. Follow the steps below to check the challan status in Delhi:

  • Step 1: Visit eChallan Parivahan Government Website and click on ‘Check Challan Status’.Step 2: On the new page, you can get details of pending e-challans either by searching through ‘Challan Number’ or ‘Vehicle Number’ or ‘DL Number’.

  • Step 3: Choose the criteria you would like to search the e-challan status and enter the Captcha code and click on ‘Get Detail’.

  • Step 4: You will be directed to a new page with details of your e-challan status.

  • Step 1: After you download and instal the app on your smartphone, open the app.

  • Step 2: You will be prompted to verify your mobile number. Enter your mobile number and OTP will be sent to verify. Complete the process.

  • Step 3: Upon successful verification of your mobile number, you will be directed to the homepage of the mobile app. Here, select ‘Traffic Notice Payment’ option.

  • Step 4: On the new page, choose ‘E-Challan’.

  • Step 5: Search by ‘Vehicle Number’ or ‘Notice Number’.

How to Pay Traffic Challan Offline?

You can make offline payments towards the traffic e-challans through various modes of payments. Here are several ways you can pay traffic challan offline:

  • Pay by Cash: You can pay by cash on the spot or you could pay to any prosecuting officer of the Delhi Traffic Police who can process the payment through the e-challan machine.

  • Visit the Delhi Traffic Police HQ: You can visit the HeadQuarters of the Delhi Traffic Police with the required documents to pay the traffic challan.

  • Pay by Cheque/Demand Draft/Pay Order: You can post these payable documents to the HQ of the Delhi Traffic Police in favour of ‘DCP/TRAFFIC(HQs)’.

Pay Your e-Challan via Paytm:

Apart from government initiatives such as Parivahan to avail services online, there are e-commerce platforms through which you can pay bills. One such is the Paytm App, it lets you pay traffic challans through its mobile app. Below are the steps to pay your e-challan via Paytm:

  • Step 1: Open the Paytm app and on the home page select ‘More’.

Delhi Police Issues More Than 600 Challans for Drunk Driving on Holi

The Delhi Police said that more than 600 challans were issued for drunk driving on Holi. Also, they issued more than 180 challans for triple riding, over 150 for dangerous driving and over 1,000 for not wearing helmets. As per the Delhi Police, elaborate arrangements were made for the safety of commuters and check violations of drunk driving on Holi. More than 170 points with police personnel were deployed to ensure a safe and peaceful Holi in Delhi. The traffic fine for drunk driving as per the new MV Act, 2019 is Rs.10,000 and/or six months imprisonment and for the subsequent offence, the fine is Rs.15,000 and 2-year imprisonment.

State Cannot Reduce Traffic Fines: Centre

The Centre has told state governments that the new traffic fines cannot be rolled back and instead they should enforce the amended Motor Vehicle Act, 2019. The Centre wrote to all Union territories and states stating that penalties for traffic offences cannot be reduced below the minimum fine fixed by law. The directive comes after several states in the country revised or reduced the recently amended traffic penalties. The new Motor Vehicle Act, 2019 came into effect from 1 September 2019 enforcing stricter and steeper fines for traffic violations. The new law strives to improve discipline among users and road safety by charging steeper fines.
