The MG Hector Plus is MG Motor’s answer to the growing demand for large, feature-rich SUVs that can comfortably seat six or seven passengers. Designed with premium interiors, bold exterior styling, and loaded with tech, the Hector Plus stands out as a capable and practical choice for Indian families looking for a spacious upgrade. It offers both 1.5-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engine options, making it suitable for both urban and highway driving.

Until now, one of the few deterrents for potential buyers has been the hefty tax burden associated with premium SUVs. Under the older GST system, the Hector Plus petrol variants attracted 28% GST and 17% cess, while diesel variants were taxed even higher 28% GST plus 22% cess, making the total tax outgo as high as 50%. This significantly increased the ex-showroom and on-road prices, especially for higher trims.

With the implementation of GST 2.0, things have changed dramatically. Effective September 22, 2025, SUVs like the MG Hector Plus are now taxed at a flat 40% GST, with the cess component completely removed. The result? A direct price drop across all variants without any compromise on features or performance.

Why have the prices been reduced for the MG Hector Plus?

The MG Hector Plus falls squarely into the SUV segment as per GST classification defined by a length of over 4 metres, engine capacity above 1500cc (in diesel), and a ground clearance of more than 170mm. Under the old GST regime, such SUVs were taxed at 28% GST + 22% cess, leading to a total tax burden of 50%.

With GST 2.0, all such SUVs regardless of fuel type are now taxed at a flat 40%, with the cess removed altogether. Here’s a snapshot of the revised tax structure.

When are the new rates applicable?

The new GST structure is applicable from September 22, 2025. Any MG Hector Plus variant  petrol or diesel billed, registered, or delivered on or after this date will reflect the updated 40% GST rate in the ex-showroom pricing.

If you are looking to buy the MG Hector Plus, then this is the right time to do so. Thanks to the new GST policy, you can save up to ₹1.46 lakhs, depending on the variant you choose.

Disclaimer: The new prices mentioned in this article are tentative and based on the revised GST rates applicable from 22 September 2025. Final ex-showroom prices may vary slightly as manufacturers and dealerships update their pricing structures in line with the new taxation policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a few commonly asked questions and their answers about the MG Hector Plus price drop after the GST cut.

Icon
How much has the MG Hector Plus price dropped after the GST cut?

Diesel variants have seen price cuts ranging from ₹1.14 lakhs to ₹1.46 lakhs, while petrol trims are cheaper by ₹59,000 to ₹75,000, depending on the variant.

Why were the Hector Plus diesel variants taxed more heavily earlier?

Diesel SUVs were previously subject to 28% GST + 22% cess, the highest combined tax slab under the old regime. GST 2.0 simplifies this to a flat 40%.

Does the GST cut affect petrol variants as well?

Yes. Petrol variants were earlier taxed at 45% (28% GST + 17% cess). They now fall under the same 40% GST bracket as diesel SUVs, offering 5% tax savings.

Will this price reduction impact on-road costs too?

Absolutely. Since on-road costs are calculated from the ex-showroom price, buyers will benefit from lower insurance, road tax, and registration charges.

Is GST 2.0 a temporary scheme or permanent?

GST 2.0 is a long-term structural tax reform, not a short-term incentive. These rates will remain in effect unless a future policy revision is announced.
