MG Hector service schedule

MG Motor India has set forth a straightforward and dependable vehicle service interval regime across the entire Hector family of automobiles. Petrol and hybrid petrol engines have an interval of 10,000 km between services; whereas, diesel vehicles require 15,000 km intervals due to lubrication scenarios that occur with greater torque loads.

For the first five service intervals, MG Motor provides free labour services for all general maintenance items, including inspections, cleaning and fluid changes, to encourage early proactive vehicle service ownership. The following table provides more details on the MG Hector service schedule.

Tips to maintain your MG Hector

By routinely following a well-structured maintenance program, you can significantly extend the life of your MG Hector, as well as keep it performing like a brand-new vehicle while enjoying its exquisite ride comfort.

Regular engine oil checks

It is important for the owner to check the vehicle's engine oil with the dipstick at least once a month in order to determine the level of oil that is available for the lubrication of the engine. When the oil level begins to become critically low, it is advisable that you put enough oil in the engine, using only synthetic oil as specified by MG.

Brake inspections

Brake maintenance should include checks on brake fluid quality and brake pads at least once every 10,000 kilometres routinely, and any damaged or worn-out items should be replaced immediately to maintain good braking power. Being able to stop quickly is vital in moving a large vehicle such as the Hector safely through congested areas.

Maintaining the battery

It is recommended that you clean the battery terminals quarterly using a cleaning solution designed specifically for batteries, which will remove the buildup of corrosive materials that have developed due to exposure to humidity. In addition, testing the battery's voltage annually will allow for the detection of weak cells and enable you to take steps to avoid being unable to start your engine during monsoon season or when parked for long periods of time.

Air filter maintenance

It is recommended that you change the air filter somewhere between every 15,000 and 20,000 kilometres. The need for air filter changes becomes more apparent for diesel-powered vehicles, which are subject to clogging from airborne particles at a faster rate than petrol engines due to the higher density of diesel fuel.

Timely servicing

By routinely maintaining your vehicle every 10,000-15,000 km, you will be able to identify problems as they happen before they escalate, and the records kept in the service booklets will help support any claims you may have under the generous five-year unlimited km warranty that comes standard with your MG.

Wheel alignment and balancing

Every 10,000 km, have the wheels aligned and balanced to prevent premature tyre wear due to uneven road surfaces and to provide stable handling characteristics that are important for safe cornering at speed. Keeping your wheels properly aligned and balanced will also enhance fuel efficiency and improve comfort when driving long distances.

Maintain smooth driving habits

Progressively applying the throttle helps to reduce thermal stress on automatic transmissions and keeps the life of several transmission components longer, and will, in turn, produce the best fuel economy for the various driving patterns experienced during the daily commute. Using engine braking techniques improves regeneration efficiency in hybrid configurations.

Keep the cabin clean

Keeping your car's interior vacuumed regularly, as well as replacing the engine's cabin AC filter at least once a year, will help maintain clean air and provide an excellent performance of your air conditioning system and will eliminate the majority of the musty odour associated with evaporator moisture during humid seasons. It will also contribute to the comfort of your passengers when taking long trips as a family.

Utilise shaded parking

Choosing a location that provides shade or using a car cover will protect the leatherette upholstery, electronic modules, and plastic from UV degradation that is accelerated by the intense tropical sun. It will prolong the appearance and functionality of the vehicle's interior for considerably longer than the period of time covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Also, using sunshades will more effectively protect the surface of the dashboard from the sun.
