Mercedes-AMG finally introduced its first plug-in hybrid car in India on April 11, 2023. This vehicle, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance, marks the performance brand's entry into high-performance plug-in hybrids and the fastest accelerating series.
It is the most potent version of the second-generation AMG GT coupe. The GT 63 S E Performance combines AMG's 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with a plug-in hybrid system to produce an enormous amount of power and torque. It allows the top GT model to reach 100 km/h in an impressive 2.9 seconds - which is the fastest time ever for a series-production AMG.
The electric motor is connected to a 6.1 kWh battery pack, allowing around 12 km of driving using only electricity. But Mercedes-AMG claims that even in just EV mode, the car can reach speeds up to 130 kmph. The battery pack is designed to give the most potent performance instead of focusing on long-distance range.
Visually, the new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance only has small design changes to make it look different. It includes having E Performance badges and a cover for the charging port on the back. The cabin look stays the same in lower models of the AMG GT, with a big portrait-style prominent touchscreen covering most areas in the centre console and a digital instrument screen behind the steering wheel. Both screens receive some software changes to show information about the hybrid power system and battery pack.
Mercedes has not yet introduced the second-gen AMG GT to the Indian market, but we believe that this model might come soon. The AMG GT 63 E Performance could also be included in India's lineup.

The AMG GT 63 S E Performance is a huge car. The front has strong shapes with a long hood that goes down to the unique AMG Panamericana grille that has vertical lines. The side look is spotless and simple, with 21-inch wheels (optional) that really stand out as a particular part, together with a roofline sloping downwards that makes people stop and stare at it. Even though 20-inch wheels come as usual, the 21-inch ones genuinely look impressive.
One unique feature on the back is the hybrid-specific rear apron with a built-in plug-in charging flap. The back is very smooth, as the roofline goes down, and nearly blends with the rear bumper, where you find slim LED taillights. The twin trapezoidal exhaust pipes are also present on each side.
