Toyota India launched the latest generation Camry Hybrid in the Indian market in 2019, priced at Rs. 46.17 lakh (ex-showroom). The updated model features cosmetic enhancements both inside and out, with new features added while the mechanical components remain unchanged. 

Externally, the Toyota Camry Hybrid boasts a new V-shaped grille with chrome inserts, LED headlights, and LED daytime running lights (DRLs). The sedan also includes a redesigned front bumper, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, and more. It is available in a new Metal Stream Metallic colour along with the existing shades of Platinum White Pearl, Silver Metallic, Graphite Metallic, Red Mica, Attitude Black, and Burning Black.

The interior has been updated with a 9-inch floating infotainment system featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The ornamentation has been refreshed with a black engineered wood effect film with a composite pattern. The sedan comes equipped with ventilated front seats, paddle shifters, a Head-Up display, a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat, a wireless smartphone charger, rear seats with a recliner, a power-assisted rear sunshade, and a three-zone AC, among other features. For safety, it includes 9 airbags, a parking assist with a back guide monitor, clearance and back sonar, vehicle stability control, traction control, a hill start assist, an electronic parking brake with a brake hold function, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Under the hood, the new Toyota Camry Hybrid is powered by the same 2.5-litre petrol-hybrid engine. This engine is paired with a self-charging hybrid electric drivetrain that produces a combined output of 175.67 bhp power and 221 Nm of torque. The powertrain is mated to a 6-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT) and offers three driving modes: Sport, Eco, and Normal.

While the materials used are of good quality, the design still appears somewhat dated. Unlike high-riding vehicles and SUVs, which are easier to enter and exit, the low stance of sedans like the Camry can be challenging for older people.

However, the Camry offers spacious seating for four passengers. Although it can fit a third person in the second row, the middle seat is upright, and the floorboard hump for the transmission tunnel makes it uncomfortable. The other seats provide good legroom, are supportive, and feature electronic adjustments at the touch of a button. The rear seats can be reclined using a special touch display in the centre rear armrest, providing access to the trunk. With a 524-litre trunk, all your luggage can be securely stowed out of sight.
