India exported 6,70,930 cars and sport utility vehicles between April and December 2025, representing a rise of 16 per cent compared with the same period in the previous year, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers on Tuesday.
The exports totalled 5,78,091 units during April to December 2024-25. Vehicle shipments to overseas markets continued to expand across all categories, with manufacturers sending cars to over 100 countries across Latin America, Africa, West Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
Maruti Suzuki held the top position in overseas shipments, exporting 3,08,237 units during the period. The company accounted for 46 per cent of all car exports from India. Hyundai Motor India placed second with 1,48,428 units, marking an increase of 18 per cent from the previous year. Nissan Motor India ranked third with 65,146 units, while Volkswagen India recorded 31,522 units.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor exported 30,358 units to over 20 countries. Kia India shipped 21,802 units, and Tata Motors exported 7,716 units during the period. Both electric and petrol-powered vehicles formed part of the export basket, ranging from small cars to sport utility vehicles and higher-end models.
The expansion in shipments reflected continued demand from markets including the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. Several manufacturers noted that policy reforms in India, including reductions in goods and services tax rates and finance costs, supported their production capacity and export capabilities.
