The Spring EV gets a Duster-like design, new interiors and ADAS.
Dacia, Renault's Romanian subsidiary, has revealed the new Spring EV. This is based on the Renault Kwid and with the facelift, it gets a Duster-like design, new interiors and an updated features list.
The Spring was first introduced in 2021 and since then, Dacia has sold more than 140,00 units of its most affordable electric vehicle. Renault plans to launch five new models in India by 2027, one of which will be a localised EV. Renault could rebadge the Spring EV as Kwid E-Tech and launch it in India.
Dacia has used a similar design language as the new Duster on the updated Spring EV. It has a similar grille to its bigger sibling flanked by a similar Y-shaped LED lighting signature. The Spring EV still has a split headlamp design and the charging port is still integrated into the grille (behind the Dacia logo). The Spring is available in six colour options including the new Beige Safari and Brick Red. Like the Kwid, the Spring EV continues to get plastic cladding on the bumpers and wheel arches to give it a butch look.
The biggest changes to the Spring have been made to the interiors. It gets Dacia’s new design language inside with a rugged-looking dashboard housing the 10-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, also seen on the new Duster. While the corner AC vents are circular, the central AC vents have the same hexagonal shape as the Duster. The HVAC control panel gets two knobs to control the fan speed and temperature along with multiple toggle switches for the windows, door lock, hazard light and two USB-C ports.
Other features in the new Spring EV include a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a toggle switch for the drive selector, and the YouClip accessory system that can be mounted in the centre console. YouClip accessories include a cupholder, a storage pouch, a smartphone mount and a portable light.
A big highlight of the new Spring is the addition of ADAS which includes features such as an advanced emergency braking system, traffic sign recognition with speed alert, rear park assist, emergency stop signal, lane change alert, lane keep assist, driver attention warning and emergency call.
Powering the Spring EV is a 26.8 kWh battery that has a claimed range of 220 km on a single charge. Dacia claims that with a 7 kW AC charger from a wall socket, the battery can be charged 20-100 per cent in less than 11 hours, and while using a 7 kW wall box charger, it can be done in four hours. It is also offered with a 30 kW DC fast charger that takes 45 minutes to charge the battery from 20-80 per cent. The Spring also gets bi-directional V2L (vehicle-to-load) functionality.
The Spring EV’s electric motor comes in two states of tune – 44 bhp and 64 bhp. The former is available on the lower-spec Essential and mid-spec Expression trims, while the latter is available on the mid-spec Expression and top-spec Extreme trims.
