Mercedes-Benz India introduced a new AMG Line variant of the GLE with the launch of the GLE 300d 4Matic AMG Line, priced at ₹97.85 lakh (ex-showroom, India). This new variant joins the GLE 450d and GLE 450 AMG Line models, marking it as the most affordable AMG Line offering in the lineup. With this addition, the German automaker has also discontinued the standard GLE 300d model in the country.
The GLE 300d 4Matic AMG Line commands a premium of ₹1.20 lakh over the previous standard model. For the extra cost, buyers receive a host of exterior and interior enhancements that align it more closely with the premium AMG aesthetic. The exterior now sports 20-inch 5-spoke AMG alloy wheels in tremolite grey, along with perforated brake pads for enhanced stopping power at the front. The front fascia gets an AMG-styled apron with a chrome trim running across the diamond grille, featuring the iconic Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star pattern. At the rear, the SUV features a sportier bumper design with a diffuser element and twin chrome exhaust tips. Additional AMG touches include gloss black ORVMs, sportier air inlets, and colour-coded side skirts.
Inside, the GLE 300d AMG Line is equipped with premium features such as a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by Mercedes' second-generation MBUX interface, along with electrically adjustable front and rear seats that include memory settings for the front seats. The cabin also benefits from a 4-zone climate control system, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera setup, and a high-end Burmester sound system featuring 13 speakers and 590 watts of output.
Safety is another area where this variant shines. It comes loaded with 9 airbags, traction control, park assist, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as blind spot monitoring and autonomous emergency braking.
Under the hood, the GLE 300d 4Matic AMG Line is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine delivering 265 bhp and 550 Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a 9-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, and is further enhanced by a 48V mild-hybrid system with an integrated starter-generator (ISG). The mild-hybrid setup adds an extra 20 bhp and 200 Nm of torque, bringing a total output that makes the SUV more dynamic.
Performance-wise, the GLE 300d can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 6.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 230 kmph. The new GLE 300d 4Matic AMG Line competes in the luxury SUV segment against the likes of the BMW X5, Audi Q7, Lexus RX, and Volvo XC90.
