While Maruti Suzuki has yet to confirm the launch timeline, testing indicates its India launch is imminent.
Maruti Suzuki has begun testing the upcoming, fourth-gen Swift in India. As many as three camouflaged test mules of the new Swift were spotted testing together on Indian roads. While Maruti Suzuki is yet to confirm the launch timeline for the fourth-gen Swift, its testing indicates that its launch in India is imminent.
The test mules are heavily camouflaged but do reveal a few important aspects of the new Swift. The international model will get ADAS features, but the India-spec model is likely to skip the safety suite as is apparent with the lack of the ADAS sensors in the grille. However, the Swift is likely to get a blind spot monitoring system as one of the test mules had an illuminated marking in the outside rearview mirror (ORVM).
Otherwise, the test mules of the Swift seem very similar to the model shown at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 last month. They can be seen with the same LED headlights with integrated DRLs, a honeycomb pattern for the new rounded grille and blacked-out alloy wheels. Furthermore, the handles for the rear doors have been repositioned from the C-pillars to the doors and the taillights also get C-shaped LED lighting elements.
While the spy shots don’t show the interior completely, it does provide a glimpse into the mid-spec variant of the Swift. It can be seen with a freestanding touchscreen, however, it remains to be seen if it will be a size smaller than the one used in the top-spec variant like Maruti Suzuki does for its other models. The cabin resembles the one seen on other Maruti Suzuki models such as the Baleno, Fronx and Grand Vitara. In terms of features, it will get a semi-digital instrument cluster, push-button start/stop, cruise control and automatic climate control. Safety features on the fourth-gen Swift are likely to include ABS with EBD, ESP, hill hold assist and more.
The international-spec model will get a petrol-hybrid powertrain with a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine (codenamed Z12). However, it is not yet confirmed if the India-spec model will get this hybrid tech or not.
