The country's largest carmaker cites sustained input cost pressures, with increases varying across its model range.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd will raise prices across its model range by up to ₹30,000 from August, citing persistent increases in input costs.

In a regulatory filing to the National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange, Maruti Suzuki said it had spent recent months attempting to absorb rising costs through internal cost-reduction measures. With inflationary pressures remaining elevated, the company said it was now constrained to pass on part of the burden to customers, while keeping the impact "to the minimum extent possible." The exact increase will differ by model, the filing noted, though the company did not specify which vehicles would see the steepest rises.

The move places Maruti Suzuki alongside several automakers that have periodically adjusted prices in response to input cost volatility, ranging from steel and aluminium to electronic components and logistics. Such increases have become a recurring feature of the Indian passenger vehicle market in recent years, as manufacturers navigate fluctuating commodity prices, currency movements, and the higher cost of compliance with tightening safety and emissions norms.

For Maruti Suzuki, which commands the largest share of India's passenger vehicle market, even a modest price revision carries weight given the volumes involved. The company's portfolio spans entry-level hatchbacks such as the Alto K10 and S-Presso to higher-volume models including the Swift, Baleno, Brezza and Ertiga, alongside its growing presence in the SUV and compact SUV segments through brands sold via the Nexa network.

Price revisions of this nature typically reflect a balancing act: manufacturers weigh the need to protect margins against the risk of dampening demand in a price-sensitive market. India's passenger vehicle segment has seen steady but uneven growth, with entry-level demand remaining relatively subdued even as premium and SUV segments have performed better. A price increase, however incremental, tends to be watched closely for its effect on affordability at the lower end of the market, where Maruti Suzuki has traditionally held its strongest presence.

The company has previously raised prices in phases through the year rather than in a single revision, a practice that allows it to respond incrementally to cost movements rather than absorbing the full impact at once. Monday's filing did not indicate whether further increases would follow later in the year.

Maruti Suzuki did not disclose specific figures for individual models, saying only that the final quantum would be communicated closer to implementation. The company's statement was signed by Sanjeev Grover, Executive Officer and Company Secretary.
