The new Honda Activa e: might be a premium affair, but it comes at the cost of slightly compromised practicality.
After its debut last year, Honda has now officially revealed the asking price of the all-electric Activa e:. Launched at ₹1.17 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Honda Activa e: will be available in two variants: Activa e: and Activa e: Honda RoadSync Duo. The latter will set you back by ₹1.51 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi). Bookings had already commenced earlier, and it will be available in select few cities for now. Yes, Honda has chosen the conservative way wherein the brand will first focus on establishing a robust swappable battery infrastructure first. So as per that strategy, the Honda Activa e: will initially be available in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
Honda has positioned the Activa e: as a premium scooter. Thereby, it is available with two swappable batteries onboard each with 1.5 kWh capacity. With both the batteries on board, the new Activa e: can do 102 km of range on a single charge. Since these are swappable batteries the Activa e: is absolved of any charging time, so all you need to do is change the depleted battery at a battery swapping station as one can’t charge the batteries by yourself.. But this advantage comes at the cost of zero underseat storage space, since the batteries are slotted there.
The batteries will power a PMSM electric motor that produces 6 kW of peak power and 22 Nm of torque. Honda claims that this setup is good enough to accelerate from 0-60 kmph in 7.3 seconds, and can reach a top speed of 80 kmph.
Design-wise, the Honda Activa e: looks unlike anything its ICE-counterpart. It's sleek, modern, and looks quite stylish with alloy wheels available as standard. Suspension duties are carried out by telescopic fork and a single-side shock absorber, while stopping power is courtesy disc brake at the front and drum brake at the rear.
On the features front, the Honda Activa e: packs in quite a sizeable 7-inch TFT display which supports Honda’s RoadSync Duo app. This gets connectivity features like turn-by-turn navigation, along with the usual plethora of music playback controls, initiate calls on-the-go, etc. Lastly, the Activa e: will also be available with a smart keyfob, same as the one Honda offers with the Activa H-Smart.
Honda Activa e: competes in a segment that include the likes of the Ola S1 Pro, TVS iQube, and the Bajaj Chetak. How would the new Activa e: differ from its competition, and will it be a better option, stay tuned to this space for we will be riding it soon.
