Unfortunately, the new Yamaha R1 duos don’t conform to the latest emission norms due to which they are track-only bikes.
Yamaha has pulled the wraps off the 2025 YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M showcasing a series of significant improvements to these high-performance motorcycles. The latest iterations of these feature both visual and mechanical enhancements, aimed at elevating their track prowess and overall performance.
A standout addition to both models is the incorporation of carbon fibre winglets, drawing inspiration from Yamaha's racing machine, the YZR-M1. Beyond making it visually menacing, these aero additions are quite functional and are designed to generate downforce, however, Yamaha has not revealed how much it produces.

Moving on, Yamaha has also updated the suspension components of both the bikes, and while the standard YZF-R1 gets the upgraded KYB front fork, with fully adjustable options. The premium R1M variant retains its high-specification Öhlins suspension setup, thus maintaining its position as the top-tier offering. Additionally, the brakes have also been updated and the 2025 versions now feature Brembo Stylema callipers. However, we wish Yamaha had used the latest Brembo Hypure brakes that Ducati implemented with the new Panigale V4.

Beyond these upgrades, the heart of these machines remains the same, potent 998cc inline-four-cylinder engine, featuring a crossplane crankshaft. This powerplant continues to produce an impressive 200 bhp and 113 Nm, with a six-speed transmission. A comprehensive suite of electronic aids, including an inertial measurement unit (IMU) that facilitates advanced features like cornering ABS, traction control, and wheelie control continue to be available as standard.
Unfortunately, these updated models do not comply with the latest Euro 5 emission standards, thus relegating them to track-only status in European markets. However, they remain street-legal in the United States, where emission regulations are less stringent. In India, the bikes have yet to meet BS6.2 norms, though there's potential for Yamaha to introduce them as track-exclusive offerings.
