BMW’s 2026 i4 electric sedan offers better range and more power thanks to its latest SiC battery tech.
BMW has unveiled notable upgrades for its popular electric sedan, the 2026 i4, enhancing both driving range and performance ahead of its November 2025 production start.
Do note that this updated model has only been launched globally as of now, with India launch details not revealed.
The core improvement lies in new silicon carbide (SiC) inverters. These advanced components manage power flow from the battery to the motors more efficiently than traditional silicon inverters.
SiC’s superior heat resistance ensures cleaner, loss-free energy transfer, directly translating to extended range across all variants.
The base i4 eDrive40 now delivers an estimated 483 km on a full charge. Opting for 18-inch wheels boosts this to an impressive 536 km, which is a 15 km increase over the previous model.
Even with larger 19-inch wheels, the range remains strong at 494 km. These figures will benefit daily commuters seeking longer trips without frequent charging.
BMW has rebranded its performance model from i4 M50 to i4 M60, reflecting substantial upgrades. The M60 now generates 510 bhp, a 41 bhp jump over its predecessor. In Sport mode, power surges to 593 bhp, enabling a 0-97 km/h sprint in just 3.6 seconds. Despite the added muscle, efficiency remains intact thanks to the SiC inverters.
Range for the M60 also improves: with 19-inch wheels, it achieves 447 km (up 11 km); even with aggressive 20-inch wheels, it hits 373 km, a 5 km gain.
All 2026 i4 models now include the ‘Seal & Drive Tyre Kit’ as standard, which provides temporary tyre repair for added convenience. Customers selecting the Parking Assistant Professional package receive a Drive Recorder, which captures surrounding footage for security.
Styling updates feature the Shadowline package, adding black mirror caps and M Sport brakes with blue calipers to the eDrive40 and xDrive40 variants. Optional Glass Controls elevate cabin luxury across the range.
