Kawasaki has updated the supercharged Ninja H2 for Euro5+ emission standards, bringing the litre-class sportbike back to European markets after a six-year absence.

Kawasaki Europe has unveiled the 2027 Ninja H2, with a series of engine and exhaust revisions that bring the supercharged sportbike into compliance with Euro5+ emission regulations. The update allows the Ninja H2 to return to the European market for the first time since 2020. Kawasaki has yet to officially confirm the 2027 Ninja H2 for the US market.

However, the updated motorcycle has already received certification from the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board, suggesting that a US-market announcement could follow.

The revisions come with a reduction in claimed peak performance. Kawasaki Europe lists 206 hp at 11,000 rpm with ram air and 99.5 lb-ft of torque at 8,500 rpm for the 2027 model. By comparison, the 2026 Ninja H2 was rated at 240 hp at 11,500 rpm and 104.9 lb-ft of torque at 11,000 rpm, also with ram air.

Kawasaki will continue to sell the track-focused Ninja H2R for customers seeking higher performance. The non-road-legal model retains a claimed output of more than 296 hp.

To meet Euro5+ requirements, Kawasaki has revised the Ninja H2's 998cc inline-four engine, with changes to the throttle bodies, pistons, cylinder head, cylinder, crankshaft and camshafts. The exhaust system also receives different pipe diameters, a revised pre-chamber arrangement and a longer, narrower silencer.

The supercharger remains a key part of the powertrain, although the 2027 Ninja H2 uses a different impeller design.

Despite Kawasaki describing the powertrain as updated, the changes are not entirely new to the company's range. The same emissions-compliant engine configuration was already used by the Z H2 SE, allowing that model to remain available in Europe after the Ninja H2 was withdrawn.

Emissions data from the EPA and CARB certifications also links the 2027 Ninja H2 to the Z H2. Using the same engine configuration provides a straightforward route for Kawasaki to meet Euro5+ requirements, while the Ninja H2's gear ratios have also been revised to match those of the Z H2.

Beyond the revised exhaust design, the 2027 Ninja H2 carries over the styling of its predecessor. It retains the Mirror Coated Spark Black finish and the contrasting green trellis frame.

Kawasaki's decision to leave the styling largely untouched follows a similar approach with its litre-class models. The company retained the existing designs when updating the Ninja 1000, Z1000 and Versys 1000 to their respective 1100 versions.

For the Ninja H2, the latest changes are therefore concentrated on the powertrain and emissions systems rather than a visual redesign. The return to European markets also restores Kawasaki's supercharged road-going sportbike to a region where increasingly stringent emissions regulations had previously forced its withdrawal.
