The festive period beckons and so do new models
There were a lot of prominent happenings in the Indian motorcycle segment with the 64th SIAM Annual Convention setting the tone for the upcoming festive season. Here’s what were the key news items:
Hero showed off its brand new 125 cc family scooter offering – the Destini 125 – as it has undergone a major overhaul. We even rode it briefly in Goa and here’s what we had to say about the refreshed scooter.
There was also the new Yamaha R15M Carbon that broke cover and 75 units of the limited edition Hero “The Centennial” CE100 were also sold this week.
Next week, we expect a flurry of launches with product refreshes being key highlights for a few. We will begin the upcoming week with what seems to be the more powerful iteration of the TVS Apache RR 310. It will be followed up with a new variant of the Triumph Speed 400 and a brand new Revolt electric bike, both of which will take place on September 17. BMW has also shown interest in launching its CE 02 mini bike by the end of the month while Honda has finally shared the details regarding the launch timelines of the Activa electric.

Following in the footsteps of Ola Electric, Ather Energy has also submitted its Draft Red Herring Prospectus to SEBI for its upcoming IPO. The popular electric scooter maker seeks to raise ₹3,100 crores from the public offering with the funds to be primarily used for production capacity expansion. There are also two new platforms incoming, one of them being an electric motorcycle.
The uncertainty surrounding the future of EV subsidies has been put to rest as the new PM E-DRIVE Subsidy Scheme has been announced. While it still has provisions for electric two-wheelers, passenger vehicles (electric cars) aren’t part of it any longer. Instead, the focus now shifts to electrifying the public mobility solutions as well as setting up new charging infrastructure.
