Norton Commando 961 Café Racer

The British brand is developing a new 400-450 cc single-cylinder and a 600-650 cc motorcycle platform.

A few days back it was confirmed that British brand Norton (now owned by TVS) will be making its India debut by late 2025. While the premium range of Norton bikes will be launched first, it also reignited the discussion of affordable Norton motorcycles. Last year we had predicted that the company should be developing a new range of single-cylinder motorcycles, which will help it in competing with brands such as Royal Enfield and Triumph

According to a new report, Norton is developing a new motorcycle in the 400-450 cc single-cylinder engine and a 600-650 cc twin-cylinder platform with help from TVS. These new range of small capacity Norton bikes will be manufactured in India by TVS so as to keep the pricing competitive. The same tactic has already been employed by Triumph and BSA to take on Royal Enfield, which holds close to 90 per cent market share. The above also helps TVS, as the company hasn’t been able to make an impact with the Ronin 225, which has been overshadowed by the Royal Enfield Hunter 350

The Norton V4SV and V4CR motorcycles will lighten your wallet by almost ₹50 lakh.

The small-capacity Norton motorcycles will also ensure that TVS’s investment in the revival of the Norton brand is profitable as the current Norton motorcycles are very expensive and more of a niche product. The Norton Commando 961 range is priced close to ₹20 lakh whereas the Norton V4SV and V4CR motorcycles will lighten your wallet by almost ₹50 lakh.

The Norton 400-450 cc and the Norton 600-650 cc bikes are still far from production ready and we expect the single-cylinder offering to go on sale in 2026 with the twin-cylinder range debuting in 2027 probably. Can the new Norton bikes give the Royal Enfield range any competition is something we will have to wait and watch, but for bikers, it’s good news as they get to choose from  an ever expanding range of motorcycles in the retro roadster segment.
