The Macan is the second EV after the Taycan and the first SUV to be fully electrified in Porsche’s line-up.
Porsche today officially unveiled the second EV of its portfolio with the Macan. Making it the first existing badge from the brand’s line-up to undergo full electrification. It will be available in two four-wheel drive variants - Macan 4 and Macan Turbo. These new electric Macans will be sold alongside its corresponding petrol-powered SUVs until 2025 before the badge becomes a full EV-only series.
With the new Macan EV, Porsche also officially joins the Volkswagen group's Premium Platform Architecture (PPE) bandwagon. This same platform will also underpin the upcoming Cayenne Electric, and it already underpins the Audi Q6 e-Tron.
With this new platform the new Macan EV has also grown in size. It is now longer, wider, and lower by 103 mm, 15 mm, and 2 mm, respectively.
Moreover, Porsche’s patented adaptive air suspension system aka Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) along with electronic damping control will also be available but with the top-spec Macan Turbo only. The Macan 4 will get the standard steel suspension and twin-valve dampers.
Aesthetically, the new Macan doesn’t look like a radical departure from the ICE-powered Macan. The overall silhouette is still the same, but the devil lies in the detail. The Macan gets a completely new front and rear fascia which are further distinguished by the new rectangular headlights and wraparound LED rear light bar.
On the inside, the cabin layout will remind you of the current Cayenne models. The dashboard now houses three digital displays. Aside from the standard 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster and the 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, there’s also an optional extra 10.9-inch touchscreen for the passenger with its own set of independent controls. In addition to that, the gear shifter has been moved from the central console to a higher position on the dashboard. Coupled with the fact that the Macan electric has a longer wheelbase, cabin space has also increased especially in the second row.
Both the Macan models will use dual permanent synchronous motors on each axle, paired to a single-speed gearbox. In the Macan 4, the motors will produce 408 bhp and 650 Nm, and in the Macan Turbo it will produce 639 bhp and 1,130 Nm of peak torque. The former can dash from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.2 seconds, while the Turbo model can do the same in a blistering 3.3 seconds.
Common to both the Macan models will be the 95 kWh battery which can be charged from 10-80 per cent in just 21 minutes using a 270 kW charger. Moreover, Porsche also claims that up to 240 kW of electric energy can be recuperated from regen braking. As for its range, the Macan 4 has a WLTP-certified range of 613 km, while the Macan Turbo can do 591 km on a single charge.
Bookings for the Porsche Macan EV have already commenced in India and the electric SUV is priced at a whopping ₹1.65 crores. Deliveries for the same will commence from the second half of this year.
