This is the first-ever Alpine racing car that has been designed for customer racing.
Alpine needs no introduction when it comes to the world of motorsport racing. Renault’s performance-focused brand’s flagship, the A290, was already creating ripples in the automotive world for its performance-oriented electric drivetrain. Further upping the ante is its rally version, the A290 Rallye, which is set to debut at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed, starting July 10. The carmaker has priced it at €59,990 (approx. ₹60.42 lakh).
The A290 Rallye meets all the technical requirements to comply with the FIA regulations. And if you’re wondering if Alpine will race it or not – Yes, Renault will be racing the A290 at the Rallye Rouergue Rodez Aveyron Occitanie. Participants will include a limited number of competitors to whom this rally edition car was delivered. Additionally, the A290 Rallye will also compete independently in local competitions.
Since the A290 Rallye is based on the same platform as the A290, the mechanicals have remained the same. Thereby, it is powered by the same 52 kWh battery that is paired to a 214 bhp-strong electric motor that is capable of producing 300 Nm of peak torque to the front axle transmitted by a ZF limited-slip differential. Additionally, it also gets Alpine’s latest electrical monitoring system that ensures optimal use of its EV technology.
Alpine has even revised the braking system of the hatchback wherein it gets 350 mm discs at the front with a 6-piston monobloc caliper. While the rear gets a 280 mm disc with single-piston caliper. Eitherway, both the brakes get Alpine-specific race-type ABS control. Even the suspension setup has been swapped with specific suspension system fitted ALP Racing Suspension shock absorbers. Lastly, it rides on 18-inch EVO corse wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport A rubbers. Given the focus on performance with the Alpine A290 Rallye here, the brand has given it an artificial exhaust sound that changes with the vehicle’s speed and throttle position.
