Mercedes-Benz V-Class makes a return to the Indian market after a gap of four years.
Mercedes-Benz just launched the all-new V-Class in India at a price of ₹1.40 crore (ex-showroom, introductory). The luxury MPV makes a comeback to India after four years and will compete against the Toyota Vellfire, Kia Carnival, and Lexus LM in the premium people-mover segment. More importantly, the latest iteration of the V-Class will be locally manufactured, strengthening Mercedes-Benz's portfolio in India.
The new V-Class is offered in two variants — the V300 petrol and V300d diesel. The former is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine with a mild-hybrid assist. This powertrain churns out 228 bhp and 370 Nm of peak torque with an additional 20 horses and 200 Nm boost by the electric motor. On the other hand, the V300d, gets a 2.0-litre diesel that pumps out 234 bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque. Both engines are paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
Here’s how the new Mercedes-Benz V-Class fares against some of its prominent rivals in the premium/luxury MPV space.
Currently priced at ₹59.42 lakh (ex-showroom), the Kia Carnival is offered in a single, fully-loaded Limousine Plus variant. The Carnival is powered by a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that produces 190 bhp and 441 Nm of peak torque. This engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels.
Offered as a fully-imported CBU in India, the Toyota Vellfire is priced at ₹1.20 – 1.30 crore (ex-showroom, India), depending on the variant. Under the skin it uses Toyota’s 2.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid system: a 2.5L four-cylinder petrol engine combined with an electric motor for a quoted combined output of 190 bhp and 240 Nm of peak torque, routed to all four wheels via an e-CVT.

The Lexus LM is a rebadged sibling of Toyota Vellfire. The luxury MPV is offered in both seven-seat (VIP) and four-seat (Ultra Luxury) layouts and priced at ₹2.15 crore and ₹2.70 crore (both ex-showroom), respectively. Underneath it uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol hybrid powertrain. The petrol engine is rated at 190 bhp and 242 Nm of peak torque, while the overall output including the hybrid system is nearly 243 bhp. Power is sent to all four wheels via an e-CVT.
