Amazon India is set to roll out a fleet of approximately 1,000 electric trucks built in partnership with VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) to support the rapid growth of its quick commerce platform, Amazon Now, across the country, the company announced on Monday.
The trucks -- custom-built Eicher Pro-X electric vehicles (EVs) -- have been designed specifically for high-frequency intra-city logistics, ferrying goods between large fulfilment centres on city outskirts and smaller micro-fulfilment centres closer to consumers.
Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, and Mumbai are the first cities in line for the rollout.
The e-commerce giant says around 50 of these vehicles are already on the road, with the full fleet of over 1,000 units targeted for deployment by 2028. Each truck is designed to cover daily distances of 100–180 km, handle multiple trips per day, and recharge in roughly 50 minutes.
The electric fleet push is in line with Amazon's ambitions for Amazon Now, which the company recently announced it plans to take to 100 cities across India, backed by a network of over 1,000 micro-fulfilment centres.
Cities earmarked for expansion include Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kochi, Mangalore, and Visakhapatnam.
Abhinav Singh, Vice President – Operations, Amazon India and Australia, said the company currently has more than 12,000 EVs deployed across India and is continuing to integrate electric mobility into its logistics operations.
VECV noted that the Eicher Pro-X trucks were co-developed with Amazon specifically for e-commerce and quick commerce use cases, with the two companies having worked together on electric truck solutions tailored to Indian logistics needs since 2022.
Amazon also highlighted that it deployed over 100 electric trucks across multiple original equipment manufacturers during 2025 in cities including Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Kolkata, as part of its wider efforts to decarbonise its transportation network.
