Amazon lists cars available at specific dealerships near the buyer, with detailed specs that can be used to filter and compare options.
Just over a year after first announcing a partnership to sell cars online in the US, Hyundai and Amazon have now rolled out their storefront in 48 cities. The companies both promise to make the car buying process easier and quicker, with transparent pricing that eliminates much of the haggling involved in visiting traditional dealerships. Customers will be able to compare models and variants online, using the familiar Amazon shopping interface. Financing options are available and the value of an older car being exchanged can also be factored in.
Car dealerships are still heavily involved in the transaction, and buyers will need to schedule a visit to pick up their chosen car. Amazon functions more like a marketplace to connect buyers and sellers, partly to comply with local laws in different jurisdictions requiring cars to be sold through dealerships.
While Hyundai is the launch partner for Amazon Autos, the online shopping giant has plans to expand in 2025. At the moment, multiple ICE, electric and hybrid pickup trucks, SUVs and sedans including the Hyundai Palisade, Kona, Elantra, Ioniq 6, and Ioniq 5 were listed when Acko Drive browsed through the selection using a Los Angeles zip code.
Amazon displays granular filters including price, body colour, trim, ADAS, safety features, fuel efficiency, battery range, seats, drivetrain, entertainment features, and seat material. Each product listing shows a detailed spec sheet, accessories and fittings included, dealership information, and price breakdown including rebates, accessories, fees, and financing costs. A monthly payment calculator lets prospective buyers see how monthly payments will be structured. Of course buyers can even leave reviews and ratings.
The cities where Amazon Autos is now available are: Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Beaumont-Port Arthur, Birmingham, Boston, Champaign/Springfield, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbia, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, El Paso, Fond Du Lac, Ft. Myers/Naples, Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York, Harrisonburg, Hartford, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Los Angeles, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Nashville, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Providence, Raleigh-Durham, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Sheboygan, Springfield, St. Louis, Tampa, W. Palm Beach, Washington D.C.
