Anand Mahindra Offers Thar To Safaraz Khan’s Father Naushad

Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra, has offered to gift a Thar SUV to Naushad Khan, father of cricketer Sarfaraz Khan. In a video shared on X (previously Twitter), Khan can be seen getting emotional when his son got his test cap from Anil Kumble.

Sarfaraz Khan made his Test Cricket debut on Thursday where he scored a half-century against England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. Sarfaraz has been coached by his father In a post on X, Mahindra said, “For being an inspirational parent, it would be my privilege & honour if Naushad Khan would accept the gift of a Thar.”

Anand Mahindra is known to gift Mahindra vehicles to athletes as goodwill. Notably, he gifted a Thar to six Indian cricketers in 2021 when the team won against Australia at The Gabba after more than 32 years. In 2023, Mahindra gifted a Thar to boxer Nikhat Zareen for winning the gold medal at the World’s Women Boxing Championship. 

The Mahindra Thar is offered with multiple powertrain and drivetrain options. It gets a choice of either a 1.5-litre diesel engine, a 2.2-litre diesel engine or a 2.0-litre petrol engine which are mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. While the petrol engine is available with rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, the smaller diesel engine is only available with rear-wheel drive and the larger diesel engine is only available with four-wheel drive. 

The Thar is priced between ₹11.25 - 17.20 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and rivals the Maruti Suzuki Jimny (₹12.74 - 14.79 lakh). Mahindra is also working on a 5-door version of the Thar that is expected to launch in India sometime this year.
