Apple has reportedly sold over 200,000 units of its Apple Vision Pro spatial computing headset. Pre-orders commenced on 19 January in the US, with shipments set to begin on 2 February.
Previously, renowned Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo had estimated sales of 160,000 to 180,000 units, yet the actual figures appear to be higher.
Reviews of the Apple Vision Pro are slated to be published on Tuesday evening, which could significantly influence the product's future prospects.
In the US, some deliveries of the headset sold out within hours of the pre-orders opening, and options for in-store pickup soon followed suit. However, with a starting price of $3,499 for the lowest memory SKU, the product's price point is steep, suggesting that demand might not reach the levels typically seen for an iPhone.
Earlier reports indicated that Apple anticipated selling only 500,000 units of the product in its first year. The Apple Vision Pro was unveiled at WWDC 2023, boasting features such as unique microLED 4k 3D displays, a range of sensors and lidar, and dual processors: Apple’s M2 chip, found in the MacBook Air and iPad Pro models, and the R1 processor.
It is based on the VisionOS which can natively run iPad and iPhone apps apart from supporting its own custom applications.
