The Italian naked aims to take the fight to the KTM 390 Duke.
Aprilia has launched its second motorcycle on the 457 India-made platform, the Tuono 457, at ₹3.95 lakh (ex-showroom India). For reference, the RS 457 currently carries a sticker price of ₹4.20 lakh and its chief rival, the KTM 390 Duke, is now priced at ₹2.95 lakh. Bookings for the same have also commenced, and interested customers can book the new Tuono 457 at any Aprilia dealership for a nominal amount of ₹10,000.
Following in the footsteps of its naked cousins, the Tuono 457 also is virtually the same as its RS sport bike counterpart. However, unlike the other Tuonos, the Tuono 457 doesn’t get the half faired face. Instead, there is a bug-shape look that is quite polarising. It will be available in two colours only: Piranha Red and Puma Grey.
Also, the clip-on bars from the RS make way for a straight flat handlebar. Hence, even though the 800 mm seat height and sporty rearset footpeg position aren’t changed from the RS 457, the Tuono 457 should be more relaxed for daily rides, especially on the upper half of your body. Surprisingly, even though the Tuono has no fairing and a marginally smaller 12.7-litre fuel tank (13-litre tank on the RS 457), the kerb weight of 175 kg remains the same.
Powering the Tuono 457 is the same 457 cc twin-cylinder heart that pushes out 47 bhp and 43.5 Nm. The final drive, though, is different as the Tuono gets a larger rear sprocket (1 tooth more). The naked will continue to get 3 riding modes (Sport, Eco and Rain), traction control and ABS, both switchable, as standard with the quickshifter remaining an optional fitment.
The engine is nestled in an aluminium twin spar frame with a USD fork and monoshock, both preload-adjustable, springing it up. The 17-inch alloys are wrapped in the same TVS Protorq Extreme tyres with the front Bybre radial braking caliper also making its way here. Hopefully, Aprilia has improved the overall braking performance of the system and it feels more solid here as well as on the RS 457.
We are riding the Italian naked soon and will bring you all key details of the bike on February 21 at 5pm.
